about

The Anthology of Overtone Singing is the most complete overview of all techniques of overtone singing around the world. Nearly all tracks were recorded and produced by Mark van Tongeren during decades of field work and Mark's own artistic research as a musician. Of 37 tracks, 29 tracks are concerned with traditional throat singing and overtone singing from regions such as Tuva, Altai, Khakassia and Mongolia. The remaining tracks are examples of modern, Western overtone singing and technical demonstrations.

Together they constitute the soundtrack for the book Overtone Singing - Harmonic Dimensions of the Human Voice, published by Terra Nova Press. The book has all the details of the musicians recorded by Mark van Tongeren, their people and culture, the musical techniques employed and much, much more. It is an indispensable guide to a deeper understanding of the nature of the human voice and its harmonic possibilities from East to West.

The album is available for streaming and download. A limited number is available on CD when bought together with the book. The playtime of the CD is slightly shorter than the streaming / download versions due to the format's time limitations.

All proceeds of this album will go to the featured traditional musicians.
